Everyone loves a “Hometown Hero!” From Houston-native, Queen B donating her wealth to Hurricane Harvey victims to J-Law spending Christmas Eve spreading holiday cheer at the Norton Children’s Hospital in her hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, it’s safe to say that some of my favs commit some of the most selfless acts of kindness. However, I do think that Chance the Rapper’s donation of $1 million dollars to Chicago Public Schools takes the cake!

August 2017 marked a great month for Chicago, Illinois. Just days after the ethereal-ness of Lollapalooza, Chance came forward with a rather large donation of a million dollars for the Chicago Public School System after some devastating state-wide school cuts were announced by Illinois Governor, Bruce Rauner. Public school funding cuts have been made all throughout the nation since the start of 2017 and it is leaving parents and students, alike, hopeless for the furtherance of their education.

To clear things up, Rauner vetoed a whopping $215 million funding bill that all CPS schools relied on…Where’s the sense in that?

Not afraid to express his feelings on the matter, Chance took to social media and announced his proclamation. "While I'm frustrated and disappointed in the governor's inaction, that will not stop me from continuing to do all I can to support Chicago's most valuable resource: it's children," stated the Rapper. Chance even hopped on Twitter to request a meeting with the Governor, himself, to discuss options going forward. Though the meeting didn’t go as Chance might have planned, he still hopes to pursue a life of social activism until justice is served to the youth of our nation!
